Over six years of ground screw installation across South East England — with the experience to show for it.
Ground Down grew out of practical experience in the garden room industry. It started with installations for contacts in the trade — including work that grew alongside garden room company The Green Rooms — and before long, word spread. We were installing foundations for multiple companies before we'd set out to build a business at all.
What became clear very quickly was how consistently ground screws outperform concrete for this type of work. Faster to install, no cure time, far less mess, and none of the longer-term concerns around slab settlement or cracking. As awareness of ground screws in the industry grew, it made sense to build a dedicated business around them.
Ground Down was set up to do exactly that. We are a specialist installer — not a general building contractor, not a landscaping company. Foundations are what we do, and we have been doing them for over six years across South East England.
Most of our work is for garden room companies — trade customers who need a reliable, consistent foundation contractor they can rely on across multiple projects. We also install for homeowners who want a cleaner, faster alternative to a concrete base. If the project involves ground screws and it is within our service area, we are interested in hearing about it.
We are not trying to be the cheapest option in the market. We are trying to be the most straightforward one to work with — the installer you can book, trust to turn up, and get on with the rest of your project.
We have been installing ground screws across South East England since before most people in the industry had heard of them. That experience shows in how we assess a site, specify the right screws and handle anything unexpected.
Most jobs are completed in a day. Screws in, level and square, ready to build. No waiting for concrete to cure, no revisit required — your crew can start the same afternoon if needed.
No skips, no excavation, no concrete bags. The site looks the same after we leave as before we arrived. For garden room companies, this is often as important to the end customer as the foundations themselves.
We will tell you what screw length you need, not what maximises our ticket price. If a project is not suitable for ground screws — unusual ground, very heavy structure, awkward access — we will say so up front.
We use cable and utility scanning equipment before every installation. If we encounter an obstruction and cannot drive a screw, you do not pay for that position. We advise on the best workaround.
We price competitively for the South East England market. Our focus is volume, quality and relationships — not squeezing every job. Use the price calculator to get an instant estimate.
Ground Down carries full trade insurance for ground work operations. Certificates are available on request.
The ground screws we supply and install are manufactured to achieve substantial load-bearing capacities for residential and commercial foundations. They are not a lightweight product.
EN1090-2 covers the execution of steel structural components — the manufacturing standard that ensures structural integrity. EN ISO 1461 is the standard for hot-dip galvanized coatings, which protects the steel from corrosion in ground conditions over the long term.
How We InstallEvery installation starts with a proper site assessment. We assess the ground conditions, confirm the right screw length and spacing for the structure, and use specialist machinery to install to precise levels. We would rather slightly over-specify than leave any doubt about the foundation capacity.
Once the job is finished, we sign off on site with the customer — checking that all screws are level, square and positioned correctly before we leave.
We carry and use scanning equipment before every installation to check for underground services. We recommend you also notify your utility provider and mark any known services before our visit.
If a screw cannot be driven due to obstruction — buried concrete, services, large roots or unsuitable ground conditions — we will not charge for that position. We will advise on the best alternative or workaround.
"Ground Down have been the foundation solution of choice for our garden rooms. Reliable, precise and always on time. The installations are consistently excellent."
"Ground Down were easy to deal with from start to finish. Communication was clear, the installation was fast and hassle-free, and the price was fair. The ground screws were in and ready without any of the mess of a concrete base."
"Professional service from start to finish. Ground Down understand exactly what's needed for garden room foundations — highly recommended to any installers in the South East."
We do not offer a formal written guarantee, and we would encourage caution toward any installer who makes blanket guarantee claims without qualification. What we do offer is: screws manufactured to EN1090-2 and galvanized to EN ISO 1461, installation using the correct specialist machinery, a proper site assessment before and during the job, and a sign-off with the customer at the end. We install to specification, we over-specify where sensible, and we stand behind our work.
Before any installation, we use radar, cable and utility scanning equipment to check for underground services. If we encounter an obstruction — buried concrete, utility services, large roots, or ground conditions that prevent a screw being driven — we will not charge for that position. We will advise on the best alternative for that location. We also recommend that customers notify their utility provider and mark any known services before our visit.
Ground screws are suitable for the majority of garden rooms, cabins, decking, timber structures and similar outdoor buildings on standard residential ground. They perform reliably across clay, loam, sandy soil and most standard South East England ground types. We can advise on the right screw length and spacing for your project. For very unusual ground conditions, unusually heavy structures, or sites with significant access limitations, we will tell you upfront if a different foundation approach is more appropriate.
Yes. We carry and use radar, cable and utility scanning equipment before every installation. This does not replace your responsibility to check with your utility provider and mark any known services before we arrive — we ask all customers to do this. If we identify a potential conflict on site, we will stop and discuss the best approach before proceeding.
For most residential garden room and outdoor structure applications, yes. Ground screws require no excavation and produce no spoil, involve no concrete or cure time, and allow you to start building on the same day. There are no concerns about slab settlement or cracking over time. The installation is faster, cleaner and causes less disruption to the garden than a poured concrete base. For the majority of projects we work on, ground screws are the practical, cleaner and faster choice. Concrete may still be appropriate for certain specialist structures or unusual ground conditions, and we will always give you an honest assessment before you book.
Both. Most of our regular work is for garden room companies and trade customers, but domestic installations are welcome. If you are a homeowner having a garden room, cabin or outdoor structure installed and you want ground screws professionally installed, we can help.
